Journal Optimizer (JO): A New Smart Selection Tool for Journal Publishing
Journal Optimizer (JO) is aimed to assist researchers in choosing the most appropriate journals to get their work published. In an attempt to provide a comprehensive tool for researchers, it is developed to incorporate multiple journal indicators beyond citation count into one platform. Researchers can get in-depth information on journal profiles before deciding where to publish. In addition to SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), the metrics include open access share (along with the amount of Article Process Charge or APC, if available) and international collaboration rate, providing insights into a journal’s visibility and accessibility.
JO is aggregated from various sources, such as Scientific Journal Rank (SJR), Dimensions.ai, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), publishers’ websites and other online resources. The current version (beta 1.0) includes 7,337 journals ranked as first or second quartile* according to SJR 2019. The annual update process enables year-on-year changes to be made to any of the selected journals.
*First quartile (Q1) is occupied by the top 25% of journals in the list. Second quartile (Q2) is occupied in the 25 to 50% group.
