Summary
This paper shows that the perovskite@silica platform can serve more than optical display applications. Because lead halide perovskite nanocrystals interact strongly with ionizing radiation, they can enhance the generation of reactive oxygen species such as singlet oxygen under X-ray exposure. By sealing the nanocrystals inside silica nanospheres, the system combines radiation responsiveness with improved chemical robustness in aqueous environments. The work suggests a possible route toward multifunctional radiosensitizers that could strengthen local therapeutic effects while supporting radio-imaging strategies. This biomedical direction is still early-stage, but it highlights the broader potential of Professor Li’s stable nanocrystal encapsulation platform.
