Synthesis of Lead Halide Perovskite Nanocrystals by Melt Crystallization in Halide Salts

Summary

This work marks a turning point from solution-based colloidal synthesis toward solid-state preparation of perovskite nanocrystals. Conventional perovskite nanocrystal synthesis often uses organic solvents and ligands, creating cost, safety, and waste concerns. By using molten halide salts as a growth medium, Professor Li’s team showed that high-quality CsPbBr3 nanocrystals can be formed through melt crystallization. The material retained narrow green emission suitable for wide-color-gamut displays. The novelty lies in using an inorganic molten environment as both a reaction medium and a stabilizing context, opening a path toward more scalable and environmentally practical perovskite nanocrystal production.
